The Golden Rule: Your appearance is an investment. It should never be a distraction, it should complement your features while exemplifying that you are sophisticated and well-groomed. Before you begin to assess your wardrobe choices, you should always consider the occasion. You are not trying to stand out for your innovative fashion sense as professional attire is classic and does not change according to fashion trends. Choosing the right attire is important regardless of whether it is for a job interview, or for happy hour after work. When in doubt about any aspect of your look, observe what similar genders in your profession wear. If you are a new employee, during the interviewing process be conscious of the attire of current employees. Peruse company dress code policies and take note of company pictures (if available). For invitation-only events, the invite is a great gauge for the apparel. It is better to be a little overdressed than underdressed. ello Readers! Thank you for taking the time to read HUSL Today, an informational blog for young professionals. The official launch date is AUGUST 1, 2009!!! Mark your calendars! Before I begin my journey as a blogger, I must first acknowledge the first tenet of communication-know your audience. Thus, I will begin by explaining what I mean by “Young Professional.” The phrase “Young Professional” (YP) describes a distinct category of people. Young is the general word for that which is undeveloped, immature, and in process of growth. A professional follows an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain. HUSL Today seeks to acknowledge the youth who are connected to a profession. Moreover, such youth may not begin their career with a job he/she plans to maintain for fifty years or more. I do not seek to confine young professionals to a preset age, race, social class, education level, or geographic location. A young professional is one who makes a conscious decision to never stop learning. It is one who remains innovative when faced with adversity. Most importantly, a young professional remains fresh and vigorous when others are distraught with failure. We are the people who seek to break into a new domain, but frequently lack experience. We are expected to listen without contributing. We are underappreciated, underpaid and overworked. We have fresh ideas that are not taken seriously. We recognize the value of an education, but struggle to help others see through our eyes. If you can relate to any of these issues, you are a certified young professional.
I seek to chronicle the struggles and achievements of young professionals. I plan to blog about things that are insightful and informational for young professionals in diverse fields. I will also publish a print version of HUSL Today in the form of a monthly newsletter (coming soon!). My hope is that you will find the information contained herein helpful and useful.
