Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Hello Friends!!

Here is your "out the door" quote of the day with a black history twist:

"You can't copy anybody and end with anything. If you copy, it means you're working without any real feeling. No two people on earth are alike, and it's got to be that way in music or it isn't music.”
Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday, nicknamed Lady Day, was born April 17, 1915. She was a seminal Jazz and Blues singer best known for her unique vocal style which pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Holiday's deeply personal approach to her singing made her the object of admiration.

She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards, notably "God Bless the Child", "Dont Explain", and "Lady Sings the Blues". She also became famous for singing jazz standards written by others, including "Easy Living" and "Strange Fruit". On November 10, 1956, she performed two concerts before packed audiences at Carnegie Hall, a major accomplishment for any artist, especially a black artist of the segregated period of American history.

Side Note: Happy Ground Hog day! Punxsutawny Phil saw his shadow which means we will have 6 more weeks of wintry weather (or so they say). The ceremony began around 1887 and while Phil's inner circle maintain he is accurate 100% of the time, the National Climactic Data Center (NCDC) reports Phil is only accurate 40% of the time. Either way the DMV is about to get another wave is ugly winter storms. I hope we get a snow day!!
