For those who are unfamiliar with the symbolism behind the Phoenix, it is a mythical sacred firebird that originated in ancient mythology. It lives a long life (500 to 1,000 years), near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg immediately arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. Although we cannot reduce ourselves to ashes like the Phoenix, we can still make a conscious decision to never let anything (not even a powerful fire) completely destroy us. A person who lives life as if they are a Phoenix is one who makes the most of each day while understanding that they are in control of how situations affect them.
