RIParadise Michael Jackson

Today is the second anniversary of the death of the greatest entertainer to ever grace the earth: Michael Jackson. Fans have found new ways to honor his legacy and his family still feels the impact of his absence. In honor of the anniversary the jacket worn by Michael Jackson in his Thriller video is on sale at a Los Angeles auction house. You can find out more about that here

I'm no stranger to posting about the KANG (I can say it like that because I'm southern), its KING for you other folks. You can check out previous posts here, here, here and a Jackson 5 Music Break here.

In honor of the "King of Pop" take a moment and listen to some of his greatest hits. My personal favorite? P.Y.T.

This is one of my favorite songs of ALL time!

I LOVE the "its black, its white" part with the special effects!

I loved Michael's fans because they were ALWAYS so exuberant. I vividly remember watching a concert as a kid and there were images of his fans fainting and being carried out on stretchers.

Feel free to share your favorite Michael moment or video.

...now that darkness is upon us

Dont resist it. You know you want to pretend you're in the video! Judge me all you want, I'm practicing my turns now! *giggles*

How many of you were afraid to watch this video in the dark as a child? *Raises Hand* I was!

For all of you concert lovers, below is the live version

Although the sun has set on "King of Pop Friday," I encourage all of you to appreciate your blessings today because you never know when they will be taken from you. The sun set on Michael Jackson a year ago and the world proclaimed he was gone too soon. He lived a life of torture and harsh judgment, feelings that still plague his family after his death. Before you judge an artist or a celebrity for what you thought they were, remember they have a team of people around them creating personas. Try not to take it personal when they do things outside of what you believe is their character. Reflect on how you would feel if every misstep you have made was broadcast worldwide. Although they are artists who have the chance of a lifetime, love them as people and try to imagine the amount of pressure they are under to keep their fans (us) satisfied.

Caution: You are About to Watch a Master at Work

"King of Pop Friday" continues...

Michael Jackson was a legendary performer. I'm comfortable with saying that. I'm also comfortable with saying he was one of the greatest performers to ever live. Its ok if you dont agree with me, different opinions are normal. I never got to see him live, but from his HBO specials to the wonderful invention that is YouTube I got to witness his remarkable performances. Although he gave his all for every performance, here are the top 5(in no particular order):

1.Billie Jean. Who could forget the very first time they saw Mike moonwalk? By the time you read this post I will be in my kitchen in my silk socks sliding all over the place.

2. Black or White and Will You be There?

3. Beat it.

4.Man in the Mirror & The Way You Make Me Feel

5. Jam, Billie Jean & Black & White at the 1993 Superbowl.

In honor of his contributions, HUSL Today has declared today "King of Pop Friday!"

Today's salute is unconventional in that it is all about Jackson's music. Take a moment and listen to a few tunes:

Shattering Records

These African American men (women will shine in a subsequent post) reached for the moon and broke records in the process

Track and Field star, Jesse Owens (1913 - 1980) broke many records at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, including becoming the first athlete to win four gold medals in one Olympiad.

Music composer and producer, Quincy Jones is the most Grammy-nominated artist in the history of the awards with 76 nominations and 26 awards. He most recently produced a re-recording of "We are the world,"originally co-written with Lionel Richie. Check it out here.

Golfer, Tiger Woods (1975 - ) is the youngest person and the first African-American to win the Masters Tournament in 1997 and by a record breaking lead of 12 strokes. He was also the highest paid athlete in 2005, earning an estimated $87 million dollars. Despite his recent transgressions, he is still an amazing athlete.

Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain (1936 - 1999) was the first basketball player to score 100 points in a single game during the 1961 season and the first player in the NBA to score 30,000 points. He is considered by many as one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

Michael Jackson (1958 -2009 ) singer, songwriter, and entertainer extraordinaire, was nominated for 12 Grammy awards and won a record breaking eight in 1984. He has received 13 Grammy awards in his career, and is a double inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as part of the Jackson 5 and as a solo artist). He holds the title of Most Top 10 Singles from an album for Thriller (1982) and the Most #1 Singles from an album for Bad (1987).

Got your eyes on a record? If it ain't broke BREAK IT!

Happy 51st birthday Michael Jackson!!

Here are tributes I found (on google where else?) to the late great King of Pop. I didn't know him personally, but I'd like to take this opportunity to pay my respects to him. I send my condolences and prayers to the Jackson family in this difficult time. I hope he finds peace in death that he didn't have in life. May he forever REST IN PARADISE.

What better way to celebrate the KANG than to take a music break and enjoy some of his greatest hits?
