TLC
From the moment the trio burst on the music scene in brightly colorblocked baggy clothes covered in condoms, TLC made a powerful statement. Dubbing themselves "Crazy, Sexy and Cool," TLC shined a light on the importance and impact of female empowerment. After their first album Oooh...on the TLC Tip, released in 1992, was certified quadruple-platinum Tionne "T-boz" Watkins, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes experienced unparalleled commercial success. Billboard magazine ranked the group as one of the greatest musical trios of all time. In the 1990s, T-boz was diagnosed with sickle-cell disease and become a spokeswoman for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. Between 1992 and 2003 the band accumulated ten top ten singles, four number one singles, four multi-platinum albums, and four Grammy Awards. In 2002, group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez was killed in a tragic car accident while visiting Honduras. After her death, the surviving members of TLC chose to go on hiatus. For the trio of beauties, fame and spotlight brought legal troubles and personal tragedies but they persevered and went on to become respected as one of the best female groups of all time. Take a moment and have a music break with me by listening to some of my favorite TLC hits.
"What About Your Friends?"
"Waterfalls"
"No Scrubs"
Raise your hand if you LOVED their dance routines. *Raises BOTH hands* I'm about to get up and do a few 8 counts. Wanna join me? Shouts out to all the people who STILL "don't want no Scrubs!" *Giggles*
Did you have a favorite TLC member? Did you relate to the lyrics of one member more than the other? What is your favorite TLC song? I'm listening...
