Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!! TGIF!

“Celebrate your success and stand strong when adversity hits, for when the storm clouds come in, the eagles soar while the small birds take cover” -Unknown
With the approach of the holidays, there will be plenty of commercials, magazine ads and people telling you about all the wonderful things you should celebrate. I always found it amazing how that works considering that I believe LIFE is something to celebrate. My challenge to you is not to wait until you're given a reason to celebrate but to create your own reasons. If you're struggling with the concept, start with the basics and progress to the more advanced. Celebrate the fact that you have the eyesight and sane mind to read this post. If dark clouds appear overhead, continue to celebrate in the shadows because the dark clouds wont last. If you celebrate during times of adversity, you will shine even brighter when the sun shines again. Celebrate!

Today's Song Choice: Gloria Gaynor-I will Survive

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!! Happy "almost Friday!!!!"

In the spirit of thinking outside of the box, I give you "The Dont Quit Poem." Check the video below

There is ALWAYS a reason to keep pushing. Whether you decide to keep working towards the same goal you set when you were in 6th grade or whether you find yourself changing directions midway through there is no reason to completely throw in the towel. Giving up on yourself and on your vision of success is unacceptable. Internalize that belief. Regardless of what obstacles present themselves do not allow them to break your spirit. By all means you should gauge the wind and adjust your sails but do not pull over and give up on the course completely. Do not become discouraged if everything does not work out in your favor right away. Remember the fable about the tortoise and the hare? The slow and steady tortoise eventually beat the hare when it counted most. You may be like the speedy and agile hare or the slow and steady tortoise but you must finish the race strong. Continue to work towards what YOU have set as your standard of success and do not be afraid to chart your own course.  Continue to remain thankful and humble for all of your blessings.

No excuses!!

Today's song choice: Brian McKnight-One last cry (Its been stuck in my head all morning)

P.S. A special shout out to AMH for his assistance in writing this post. It is officially a two-way street :)

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people! Happy Hump day!

“Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him. By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and feature” -Viktor Frankl

Today I challenge you to make all of your decisions with love in your heart. Submit yourself to random acts of kindness for strangers. Interact with others from a standpoint of love and understanding. Do not allow anyone to negatively affect your mood. Love yourself and then treat others with the same kind of love. Regardless of how others treat you, continue to be kind, nonviolent and loving. When you show others love, you are more likely to get love and positivity in return.

Instead of a song choice for today I chose a movie scene. It may be interpreted as completely contrary to today's message but it is no less motivational.

"This is where we hold them, this is where we FIGHT!"

The story of Leonidas and his 300 Spartans inspires me to continue to believe in the power of change when one is determined to facilitate it. Do not underestimate what one person or 300 people can do when they truly believe in themselves and their cause. My absolute favorite line is: "Give them nothing, take from them EVERYTHING!"

This. Is. Sparta!!!
Salute!

P.S. Unconditional self-love is the best love. As Ru-Paul would say "If you can't love yourself how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?"

Love!!!!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people! Happy happy Tuesday!

There are nine requisites for contented living: HEALTH enough to make work a pleasure; WEALTH enough to support your needs; STRENGTH enough to battle with difficulties and forsake them; GRACE enough to confess your sins and overcome them; PATIENCE enough to toil until some good is accomplished; CHARITY enough to see some good in your neighbor; LOVE enough to move you to be useful and helpful to others; FAITH enough to make real the things of God; HOPE enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future. -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I have said this before and I will say it again: Life is too short to spend it feeling anything but pure joy. I know its sounds cliche but we all need to be reminded of this every once in a while. In my case, I can get so wrapped up in work and school that I fall into a rut where I'm always tired and I start to complain. Fortunately, this is when my friends swoop in and force me out of my rut. I am so blessed to have friends who are there to constantly remind me of the importance of enjoying life. From spontaneous dinners to exotic restaurants to amazing parties and study sessions, I am blessed to have such wonderful friends and a great family too. My hope is that you all will take heed to this advice and truly live every day to the fullest. You do not have to take your dreams to the grave with you, you can live your dreams! Make a list of all the things you have always wanted to do and do them! Wanna go to China? Grab your passport and book a flight! Wanna learn to play hockey? Find a class and sign up! There is nothing you can't do when you put your mind to it. Worried about your financial situation? The holidays are coming up so  you can pick up a few hours on the weekend for a few weeks in order to make your dreams a reality! Affix your eyes on your prize and do not let anything deter you!

If you are not smiling dozens of times every day then it is time for you to stop and REFLECT. What is it that is draining you? Is it your friends? Is it your spouse? Is it your job? Do you feel trapped by something? Be honest with yourself and figure out why you are not fulfilled. Face your fears! Find your place of solace and go there whenever you need a mental break. When work starts to stress you out too much, request a mental day and spend it doing something you would never have done otherwise. Take your shoes off and go to the beach. Take a mental day from school and close all of your books while you do something relaxing like going to a spa.

Take full control of your own direction and steer clear of negative parasites!! Do not allow people who are constantly telling you what you can't do to remain a part of your life. Surround yourself with positive people you trust to tell you the truth but who will also encourage you to follow your dreams. Your life is a journey and you must be the captain of your vessel!

No Excuses!!

Love!!!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!! Its time to beat the Monday Blues and get our week started on a positive and productive note.

"Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken." -Frank Herbert

I challenge you all to tap into your inner selves and allow your talents and gifts to shine through. Do not allow them to remain dormant inside of you any longer. You were blessed with your gifts for a reason and you will never discover that reason if you allow them to remain hidden. Your spirit and the rest of the world deserves to benefit from the gifts you were blessed with. Make the world better than it was

Start your week off (or continue your week) with a positive "go get em" attitude. You will achieve great things this week! All you have to do is believe in your own abilities and trust your instincts!

Today's song choice: Kanye West-Stronger

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!! Happy Friday!

You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself.” -Harvey S. Firestone

I challenge you all to give a little bit more of yourself today. I know its Friday but I'm determined to help everyone break the cycle of the "Friday Rush." Whats the "Friday Rush" you ask? The Friday Rush is a trifecta: The RUSH to get to Friday, the RUSH to get through Friday and the RUSH to get out of the door on Friday. I want all of you to offer your goals and tasks the same level of dedication regardless of the day of the week. Do not give in to the pressure to cherish Fridays more than you cherish any other day and do not allow yourself to dread Mondays. Go the extra mile today and every other day and you will reap the rewards.  The more others see you give of yourself the more likely you will be to motivate them. When people you associate with see you elevating yourself they will want to become better versions of themselves. Continue to carry yourself with pride, integrity and respect.

P.S. Find a community service project and give back to your community this weekend!

No Excuses!

Sharing is Caring: 10 ways to INSTANTLY build self confidence

Use these 10 strategies you can get the mental edge you need to reach your potential:
1. Dress Sharp
Although clothes don’t make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. Use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, significant improvements can be made by bathing and shaving frequently, wearing clean clothes, and being cognizant of the latest styles.
This doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. One great rule to follow is “spend twice as much, buy half as much”. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes. Buying less also helps reduce the clutter in your closet.

2. Walk Faster
One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about herself is to examine her walk. Is it slow? tired? painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.

3. Good Posture
Similarly, the way a person carries herself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movements display a lack of self confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By practicing good posture, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.

4. Personal Commercial
One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to a motivational speech. Unfortunately, opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few and far between. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that highlights your strengths and goals. Then recite it in front of the mirror aloud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost.

5. Gratitude
When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can’t have it. This leads you to dwell on your weaknesses. The best way to avoid this is consciously focusing on gratitude. Set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for. Recall your past successes, unique skills, loving relationships, and positive momentum. You’ll be amazed how much you have going for you and motivated to take that next step towards success.

6. Compliment other people
When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. To break this cycle of negativity, get in the habit of praising other people. Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you’ll become well liked and build self confidence. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

7. Sit in the front row
In schools, offices, and public assemblies around the world, people constantly strive to sit at the back of the room. Most people prefer the back because they’re afraid of being noticed. This reflects a lack of self confidence. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over this irrational fear and build your self confidence. You’ll also be more visible to the important people talking from the front of the room.

8. Speak up
During group discussions many people never speak up because they’re afraid that people will judge them for saying something stupid. This fear isn’t really justified. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you’ll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.

9. Work out
Along the same lines as personal appearance, physical fitness has a huge effect on self confidence. If you’re out of shape, you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your physcial appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish something positive. Having the discipline to work out not only makes you feel better, it creates positive momentum that you can build on the rest of the day.

10. Focus on contribution
Too often we get caught up in our own desires. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on the contribution you’re making to the rest of the world, you won’t worry as much about you own flaws. This will increase self confidence and allow you to contribute with maximum efficiency. The more you contribute to the world the more you’ll be rewarded with personal success and recognition.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people! Its ALMOST FRIDAY!! Read below for today's quote:

“There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout: This is me damn it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complex package. Take me... or leave me. Accept me - or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision. When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad - you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you.” -Stacy Charter

Your perception of yourself has an enormous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is reality — the more self confidence you have, the more likely it is you’ll succeed. Improve your perception of yourself and it will help improve your outlook on the things in your life. Accept that you are not perfect but that you are a perfect version of yourself. Do not change yourself to make others happy and do not make your personality smaller because it will make those around you feel better. Remember NO ONE can make you feel inferior without your permission. Dont be afraid to stand out, make it your mission to do so.I challenge all of you to stand tall in the face of adversity, smile when you want to frown and face the world with confidence today.  I know you can do it!

No Excuses!

Out the Door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people! Thanks a mil for stopping by! Here is today's quote:

"Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do." -Pope John XXIII

Today I challenge you to go out on a strong limb and dream bigger than you have ever dreamed before. Dream like you have never fallen off of your bike. Dream like you have never had a nightmare. Dream like reality has never slapped you in the face. What do you really see? Where do you see yourself when you allow your mind to wander endlessly? What do you think is holding you back? Recognize that the inevitable thing about taking risks is that you will experience failure in one form or another.

Do not allow the sinking feeling of failure to consume you! Take EVERY setback in stride and remain confident in knowing that all of your hard work will pay off. Continue to open up your mind to new opportunities and great things will present themselves to you.

No Excuses!!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!! Did you miss me? Did you miss the inspirational quotes? Was your week TERRIBLE because I failed to post after Monday? Well first I apologize about my sudden absence and now I will begin my quest to make it up to you. Read below for today's quotes:

It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not.  ~Author Unknown
Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.  ~Eleanor Roosevelt
If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.  ~Author Unknown

Before you read on any further, think back to the last time you felt insecure. What caused it? Who caused it? Was it an insecurity in yourself or an insecurity in your relationship? The important thing here is not your answer to the question but the process one must endure in order to realize the true answer. Think about what makes you feel insecure. Why does it make you feel that way?  Forcing yourself to consider these things will allow you understand what things make you feel insecure and will make you less likely to negatively react when your insecurity resurfaces.

Today I challenge all of you to work on your self-confidence. In your quest to do so, you will discover your shortcomings and you will realize your imperfections. I encourage you to face all of them head on. Do not run away from the fact that you are not a great painter; instead, paint your heart out as often as you can and that insecurity will disappear. If your writing skills are weak, write the first thing that comes to your head every time you get free time. If your fear is speaking in public, sign up public speaking courses and cultivate your fear into a skill. If you fear starting your own business for fear that it will fail, remember you will never realize your true potential if you never take risks!  Do not ever sell yourself short by allowing fear or insecurity to overpower your life! Continue making strides on your journey, I have faith in you!!

No Excuses!! Don't hold back!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!

"We shall never have more time. We have, and always had, all the time there is. No object is served in waiting until next week or even until tomorrow. Keep going...Concentrate on something useful.”
-Arnold Bennett

Do you have something you need to be doing right now? Why aren't you doing it??
Can't focus? Eliminate distractions! Logoff of Facebook, turn your phone off, turn off all notification devices,
Don't have the resources you need? Take the initiative to find them!
Lack motivation? Make a list of things you need to accomplish before the year is over and cross things off one at a time. As time passes, you will feel better about yourself and pretty soon you will be unstoppable!
Regardless of what excuse you may have for putting things off until later, there is always a better reason to take care of what you need to do now so you can do what you want to do later.

NO excuses!!

P.S. I chose today's quote as a way to motivate myself and I hope it motivates you all as well. I dont know about you but I tend to believe I do my best work while I'm in the clutch.  Then my body crashes and I realize that I need to slow down.  I keep telling myself that I have learned my lesson with procrastinating but then I revert back to my bad habits and end up doing things at the last minute. I need help! Feel free to share your tips!

Thanks for stopping by! Make a fist and put a serious beat down on those Monday blues!!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!

"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." - Benjamin Franklin
I know today's quote a bit cliche but I believe it is still as powerful as it was when Benjamin Franklin first said it. Today I issue a challenge to all of you to make backup plans. Its simple: make a plan and then make a backup plan! I hear you saying "wait a minute, I thought we were supposed to pick a goal and work hard towards making that goal a reality?" That is still true. I do not want you to confuse having a backup plan with planning to fail because that is not the case. Having a backup plan is accepting the reality that we live in a world filled with uncertainty. Not only is it wise to have a backup plan, it is necessary.  Have you heard people describe horrific freak accidents by saying "I never knew it could happen to me"??  Life has a way of throwing unexpected obstacles in your way and if you are prepared with backup plans your course will not be negatively impacted as much and bouncing back will be much easier. I'm an optimist on all days that end in Y but I am also a realist. I would fail you as a blogger and as a person if I told you all unrealistic things. Thats not my goal. Stop thinking bad things dont happen and wake up to reality. Bad things happen. Bad people exist. Plans dont work out. You are special and you are extraordinary but that is not enough to ensure a perfect life for you. How many extraordinary workers lost their jobs 2 years ago? How many dedicated people became unexpectedly underemployed?  Do you think those people went to work for 10, 15 or 20 years believing one day they would be laid off and lose their pensions? Do you think they believed they would retire with a nice nest egg or get fired from a company that went under?

Let those questions marinate.

Before you go any further, stop and ask yourself the following questions:
What happens if the company you plan on working for files for bankruptcy?
What happens if your company decides to outsource jobs overseas?
Do you have skills that another company would think are valuable?
Are you financially stable enough to support yourself if you have to return to school as a full time student?
Would you be willing to relocate for a job?
What happens if you graduate without any job offers?

Do not stop at Plan A, make a Plan B, Plan C and even a plan D.   Do not wait around for life to happen, anticipate things that might happen and stay on your toes.

No excuses only results!

Sidenote: A big CONGRATS to my great friend Alpha for winning CFO!! I'm so proud to have played a teeny part in getting you elected as a write in candidate.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!! Happy Monday!
“I think we all wish we could erase some dark times in our lives. But all of life's experiences, bad and good, make you who you are. Erasing any of life's experiences would be a great mistake.” -Louis Miguel

Dont start your week or your days consumed by things you regret. Instead, use the experiences as a  catalyst to make a change. Remember that everything you do, have done and will do are all a part of your character. Regretting those things is like resenting a part of who you have become. Take the time to honor yourself and to honor those around you by embracing your mistakes. If you deem necessary, discuss your mistakes with people you trust and seek guidance from your mentors to prevent making the same mistake twice. Remember the first step to making a difference is recognizing that you are not perfect. Acknowledge that you have shortcomings and learn to make them work to your advantage. Do not ever under any circumstances allow your mistakes to make you feel "less than" or like you are not as good as someone else. You are worthy of greatness and you will achieve excellent things!

October is the month of NO EXCUSES!! Stop making excuses and start making things happen!  If you have not heard it this week, I believe in you!

Today's song choice: The Temptations-Shout. I hope this helped get your Monday off to a wonderful and positive start.

Sidenote: Let the countdown begin for my birthday!!!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT Morning my beautiful people!! Happy happy Friday!

"You are responsible for your life. You can't keep blaming somebody else for your dysfunction. Life is really about moving on." -Oprah Winfrey

Its Friday October 1 and its the month of NO EXCUSES! Its the last day of the workweek but its also the beginning of the month. If this is the last work day before your weekend, I encourage you to leave the week behind. If it is not your last day of work, take this day as another opportunity to accomplish the things you set out to cross off your list when the week began. Do not dwell on the things you were unable to accomplish, do not kick yourself for falling short of your goals. Celebrate life and the things you managed to accomplish. Live in *this* moment. Face all of your shortcomings from September and use them as stepping stones to accomplish even more!

Look back only for the purpose of reflecting on your past behaviors with a proactive mindset. The hottub time machine does not exist so you cannot go back to September 22 to change what you did nor can you relive any other day. If you wasted time in certain areas, make note of it and resist the urge to waste time at the beginning of your next workweek.

I challenge every one of you to leave September behind and strive for a wonderful October! Its the 10th month of 2010 (whoa where did 2010 go??) and you still have time to make 2010 an epic year for you.

Live with no regrets and always give 110% so you do not find yourself regretting things you did in the past.

Let the happy Friday dances commence!!!  Today's tune: Never Too Much-Luther Vandross
