Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!! TGIF!

A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of sheep. -Vernon Howard

I challenge you all to cease searching for the approval of others. Seek first to accept everything about yourself and to love yourself unconditionally. Do not worry about whether your friends will approve of your decisions or whether your family will be disappointed. While I admit there is a special kind of satisfaction that comes with hearing "job well done" I encourage all of you to motivate yourself. You know when you did a good job and you know when you fell below the standard of excellence. Make all of your decisions going forward based on what really makes you happy. Work where you want to work. Date who you want to date. Live where you want to live. Drive what you want to drive. Eat what you want to eat. Teach people how to treat you. Set your own standards and do not allow the opinions of others change them. As long as you allow your decisions to be influenced by what you believe others will think, you will be married to the opinions of others. Its time to divorce yourself of those opinions and live your life for yourself! Although your decisions may impact someone else's life, you are the only one who has to live with all of the consequences of your decisions. Make your own mistakes. Make your own goals. Create your own stamp of approval and stamp your own life.

Its time to do your happy dance. Today's song choice: Kid Rock-Born Free

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!!! TGIF!

“Celebrate your success and stand strong when adversity hits, for when the storm clouds come in, the eagles soar while the small birds take cover” -Unknown
With the approach of the holidays, there will be plenty of commercials, magazine ads and people telling you about all the wonderful things you should celebrate. I always found it amazing how that works considering that I believe LIFE is something to celebrate. My challenge to you is not to wait until you're given a reason to celebrate but to create your own reasons. If you're struggling with the concept, start with the basics and progress to the more advanced. Celebrate the fact that you have the eyesight and sane mind to read this post. If dark clouds appear overhead, continue to celebrate in the shadows because the dark clouds wont last. If you celebrate during times of adversity, you will shine even brighter when the sun shines again. Celebrate!

Today's Song Choice: Gloria Gaynor-I will Survive

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning beautiful people!! Happy Friday!

You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself.” -Harvey S. Firestone

I challenge you all to give a little bit more of yourself today. I know its Friday but I'm determined to help everyone break the cycle of the "Friday Rush." Whats the "Friday Rush" you ask? The Friday Rush is a trifecta: The RUSH to get to Friday, the RUSH to get through Friday and the RUSH to get out of the door on Friday. I want all of you to offer your goals and tasks the same level of dedication regardless of the day of the week. Do not give in to the pressure to cherish Fridays more than you cherish any other day and do not allow yourself to dread Mondays. Go the extra mile today and every other day and you will reap the rewards.  The more others see you give of yourself the more likely you will be to motivate them. When people you associate with see you elevating yourself they will want to become better versions of themselves. Continue to carry yourself with pride, integrity and respect.

P.S. Find a community service project and give back to your community this weekend!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT Morning my beautiful people!! Happy happy Friday!

"You are responsible for your life. You can't keep blaming somebody else for your dysfunction. Life is really about moving on." -Oprah Winfrey

Its Friday October 1 and its the month of NO EXCUSES! Its the last day of the workweek but its also the beginning of the month. If this is the last work day before your weekend, I encourage you to leave the week behind. If it is not your last day of work, take this day as another opportunity to accomplish the things you set out to cross off your list when the week began. Do not dwell on the things you were unable to accomplish, do not kick yourself for falling short of your goals. Celebrate life and the things you managed to accomplish. Live in *this* moment. Face all of your shortcomings from September and use them as stepping stones to accomplish even more!

Look back only for the purpose of reflecting on your past behaviors with a proactive mindset. The hottub time machine does not exist so you cannot go back to September 22 to change what you did nor can you relive any other day. If you wasted time in certain areas, make note of it and resist the urge to waste time at the beginning of your next workweek.

I challenge every one of you to leave September behind and strive for a wonderful October! Its the 10th month of 2010 (whoa where did 2010 go??) and you still have time to make 2010 an epic year for you.

Live with no regrets and always give 110% so you do not find yourself regretting things you did in the past.

Let the happy Friday dances commence!!!  Today's tune: Never Too Much-Luther Vandross

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning beautiful people!!

Just in time for the weekend, HUSL Today is back! I apologize about the long hiatus but hopefully IT has fixed my issue. The worst part about it is that I contemplated giving up my mac for a little while because of the connectivity issues but I can connect now so I hope its a good sign. Without further delay, I give you FIVE inspirational quotes to make up for the week I missed. Read below and see if you can figure out the common theme for today:

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."  -Buddha

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first."-Mark Twain

"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see." -John Burroughs

"Look, I don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colorfully, or you're not alive." -Mel Brooks

"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life." -Albert Camus

Today's message is all about LIVING YOUR LIFE! It is something I want all of  you to do. I know you're breathing oxygen and eating food but are you LIVING? When I say LIVE I mean I want you all to do what makes you and the people you love happy. Take risks and learn to recognize once in a lifetime opportunities. Obstacles will present themselves. You will get discouraged sometimes. You may sometimes feel like you're alone but the one thing you must never forget is that life will go on. The sun will rise and the days will pass but it is up to you how you spend the time you're awake. Spend it with those that support you. Spend it working towards your dream. Spend it looking fabulous! Take full advantage of all opportunities and truly live without looking back on your days and having regrets. If you ever have to say "I should have" or "I could have" its time to re-evaluate why you are holding yourself back. Take your life to the next level!  Life is too short to spend it miserable, dealing with negative people or doing things that make you unhappy. Take a step back and evaluate every aspect of your life. If there is something you want to change, dont hesitate just CHANGE IT! What are you waiting for? Dont wait for a new year, or a birthday or a catastrophe take charge of your life and live the way you want to live!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREAT morning all!! Happy Happy Friday!

"Try to put well in practice what you already know. In so doing, you will, in good time, discover the hidden things you now inquire about.” -Remy de Gourmont

(Isnt that the cutest animal picture??)
Today's quote is brought to you by the letter "P." P is for:
Perfect.
Professor.
Practice.
Practical.
Pontification.
Ponce de Leon.

Ok you get the point. I'm sure you have all heard the oh so cliche phrase "practice makes perfect." The ironic thing about cliche's is that they got their "cliche" status by being true! How many times have your abilities improved with practice? How many times have you became a better person just by nurturing your skills?

There's another cliche: "Knowledge is nothing if you never put it into practice."

I challenge you to remember the last time you jumped head first into a project only to discover you knew the right answer all along? How many times has a professor called on you and you thought you were stumped but when he/she told you the answer you realize you knew the answer? Both of these things has happened to me more often than I care to admit. I had the knowledge but when it counted most, I didn't trust myself enough to use it.  That was then, I now stay encouraged by taking advantage of every opportunity to build upon things I already know. I trust myself now and I'm not afraid of making mistakes. How can you do this? Start with the knowledge and experiences you have already had and build it up like you're picking players for a football team. If your quarterback is strong but you need better protection to prevent sacks, continue to nurture your quarterback but shift some of your focus to finding a combination of great lineman and great running backs.

When working with others do not assume they have had the same experience just because the two of you have things in common (gender, race, age, etc.). Instead of assuming what your group-mates already know, ask probing questions to discover and play upon everyone's strengths. Understand your experiences are valuable and share your perspective with the confidence that you can make an impact. Make steady progress by continuing to make effective use of everything you have experienced thus far without disregarding new opportunities to grow. Making progress is not optional, its necessary!

In celebration of the end of the week, stop what you're doing and do a little happy dance with me. Today's tune: Just Got Paid.

How about those Saints last night?? Who DAT said the Vikings were gonna beat the Saints?

Love!

Sidenote: I found the source of my connectivity issue and its my Mac! *sad face* It turns out that Macs are known to have issues with the internet connection in my building. I'll continue to hold out hope that when the servicemen come next week they will have some tips for me on how to improve the reliability of my connection.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

GREATmorning everyone! What a week we've had! I for one know I'm thankful today is Friday. Today's quote:

“Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed." -Buddha

Today I challenge you all to open yourself up to accept new opportunities and ideas. Often times when we get older we become set in our ways and develop tunnel vision. How do you know if its happened to you? If someone asks you why you do something a certain way you respond with "well because its how I've always done it." We decide what we like and do like and what we will and wont do. Unfortunately, doing so does not make our lives easier. What happens is that we become stuck in the time period we were in when we made our decision.  I'm not challenging you to force new things on your life, I'm challenging you to leave yourself open to new things. There is nothing wrong with favoring a certain brand, but do not become so loyal that you miss the opportunity to try something better. You dont have to abandon your favorite brand of coffee, but if competition offers a better brew for a cheaper price at least give them a try. You dont have to give up your favorite search engine, but if a competitor promises a better search give them a try. You dont have to give up anything you love in order to try something new. Although you may not like the new product, at least you have given yourself a fair opportunity to try a new thing.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning beautiful people! Here is today's quote:

“The most successful people are those who are good at Plan B.”   -James Yorke

As we transition from work to weekend mode, we grow more excited about our weekend plans. Whether you're planning to go to dinner with friends at a new restaurant or spending your entire weekend in the bed doing nothing more than snacking and using your remote, the weekend is often an exciting time for many people. We can make plans, and then life happens. What the weekend has taught me is the importance of having a plan B. Moreover, it has taught me the important of having a quality plan B. One of the greatest (and most frustrating) things about life is that it is unpredictable. You may have planned for several weeks for a night on the town with your friends and then one of your friend's left her headlights on and the carpool fell through. Do you scramble to make the night happen anyway or do you give up and stay in for the night? You spent months drafting and revising your business plan and you finally landed a meeting with a group of investors. On the morning of your presentation, there is a flash flood in your neighborhood and you are trapped. Do you call your investors immediately to cancel the meeting or do you pool your resources together to attempt a videochat first?

The challenge for today is to have a plan B. You can overcome adversity a whole lot easier if you have a back up plan. Having a quality plan B will also teach you to be flexible. No matter how much you plan, there will always be unpredictable variables. Great people leave room for variables and even learn to anticipate them.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning everyone!!! TGIF!  Here is today's quote:

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” - Mark Twain

Surround yourself with positive people everyday. If you happen to come across people who are on a mission to make you feel "less than" distance yourself from such people. Do not waste energy on dealing with negative people! It sounds cliche, but life is too short to spend it surrounded by the wrong people. Create a circle of trust, respect and encouragement and allow everyone else to fall out of line. The people who dont make the cut dont deserve your company.

Quote: “Everything in life is connected somehow. You may have to dig deep to find it but its there. Everything is the same even though its different. Somehow everything connects back with your life. The faces in certain places may be different, but the situation is the same. Irony is a hidden factor that creeps around us in life, letting its presence felt only after it has left. Picture back to a year ago and the situation you were in. Look at how things are different yet somehow everything it still in someway cognate. Everything connects together to form the balance of life, to maintain structure. Change is and always will be inevitable, but everything is relative, and all the moments and times in your life will come back around again, you just might find yourself on the other side of the coin. Things are always changing, as fast as everything stays the same.” -Unknown

Good morning friends!!! Thanks for stopping by! Here is today's quote:

Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There's no greater investment." -Stephen Covey

I know today is Friday and I know you may be rushing to cross everything off of your list for this week. What I want everyone to understand is that self growth takes time and patience. Everything will not happen overnight. There will be setbacks. You will get discouraged. Have patience with yourself and give yourself the opportunity to learn about yourself. Have faith in yourself and learn to accept that life is a journey not a destination. Truly live to embrace and improve your imperfections while allowing your strengths to speak for themselves.

We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Good morning all!!! I never thought I would be soooo happy to say that its FRIDAY! Whoa what a week it has been! Here is today's quote:

Your distress about life might mean you have been living for the wrong reason, not that you have no reason for living.  -Tom O'Connor

I spent 4 hours yesterday talking to my extended family learning about what my aunts and uncles were like when they were younger. It helps give my life purpose. It also helps me Their experiences inspired me. I'm always amazed when I get to talk about history with the people who experienced it first hand. I was never a fan of history or geography until I started talking to people who have lived through the things history books discuss and been to places on maps. Curse a history book, talk about history with your elders and learn about your past. Get out and travel and visit your distant relatives. You never know what you might dig up. You might be related to queens and kings.

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning everyone! Finally, we get to stop asking "Is it Friday yet?" because ITS FRIDAY! Welcome to the end of the week which means this is the last "out the door" quote for this week.

"All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward."
-Ellen Glasgow

Think about the last time you were at the carnival. My favorite ride was the carousel so I will use my experience to make my point. After you paid your fare you got to choose which object to ride on-an animal, a bench, or some other object. It went around in circles a few times while the music played, the objects moved up and down and the lights flashed. You wave at the people outside of the gates whom you know, or may not know, each time you complete a rotation. Then you exit the ride. You climb from your horse and you're back to where you began. Granted with a bit more adrenaline than when you started but you end at the exact same place where you began. Essentially the carousel is how many people live their lives. They go out and see different things but fail to apply the knowledge they acquired along the way. The consequence of this is a life characterized by situations that begin and end at the same exact spot. Even if you have experienced let downs in the past, resist the temptation to fall into a rut!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning all! Its Friday! Pause. Let me do my happy dance. Feel free to do your own celebration dance. Ok back to business, here is today's quote:

Life is meaningless only if we allow it to be. Each of us has the power to give life meaning, to make our time and our bodies and our words into instruments of love and hope.
- Tom Head

What have you done to define your life so far? How would your loved ones describe you? Are you the one who embraces everyone or do you turn your nose up at others? Are you one who accepts your setbacks and move on or do you dwell on them and stand still? Our character is shaped by how we react to different circumstances. Focus on putting your best food forward everyday. Every day you awake is another chance to give your life purpose and meaning. Do not allow others to define you, harness your own power and live your life with purpose! Today is YOUR day! Strap up your laces and hit the ground running!

Out the door...inspirational quote to start your day

Good morning ladies and gents! Its been a long week folks but alas, today is Friday. I am thankful for the challenges I faced this week but I went through hell! The quotes for today are a few quotes I used to get myself through the week along with a few mojitos. I hope they help you as well.

When any fit of gloominess, or perversion of mind, lays hold upon you, make it a rule not to publish it by complaints.  ~Samuel Johnson

If you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it.  ~Anthony J. D'Angelo
Learn to accept in silence the minor aggravations, cultivate the gift of taciturnity, and consume your own smoke with an extra draft of hard work, so that those about you may not be annoyed with the dust and soot of your complaints.  ~William Osler

Don't complain. Looking back a year ago, I prayed for the opportunity to do the things I do. Now that I have the opportunity I made a vow not to complain when times get difficult because there is someone somewhere wishing they were where I am.
