Music Break: African American Music Appreciation Month, Day 22

What would African American music appreciation month be without a celebration of gospel music? Whats more African American than a black church and gospel music? Dont answer that.

Fast facts:
Since his debut, 1993's Kirk Franklin & the Family, Kirk Franklin has been one of the brightest stars in contemporary gospel music.
The album spent 100 weeks on the gospel charts, crossed over to the R&B charts, and became the first gospel debut album to go platinum.

Kirk Franklin revolutionized gospel music with his soulful tunes and appeal with a wider audience. Franklin faced stark criticism for his association with hip hop artists and his performance style but he did not let that steer him away from his work. He worked with artists like R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige while creating music videos many thought were more hip hop than gospel.

Post your favorite gospel song by an African American artist in the comment section. Sharing is well you know by now...
