It is ranked #309 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
It is ranked #38 on Songs of the Century. It was the 17th best-selling single of 1984 in the UK.
The music video claimed the "Best Female Video" award at the MTV video awards in 1985.
The song received the following awards at the 1985 Grammy Awards:

Turner also wrote I, Tina with Kurt Loder which was adapted as a screenplay for Whats Love Got to Do With It? It chronicled her rise to fame and her experience in a domestic violence relationship with her then husband Ike Turner.
