African American Music Appreciation Month 2011

Talented Generation's highlight of African American Music continues with...

Southern Hip Hop
Southern Hip Hop, affectionately referred to as "The Dirty South," is a genre of hip hop that originated in Miami, Atlanta, and New Orleans in the late 80s and early 90s. Despite a rough start, it has grown to become a musical phenomenon.  Dirty South music differs from music found on the East and West coast because they focused on strong beats and incorporated their lifestyle into their lyrics. The artists helped bring southern lifestyle to the forefront. Southern music has dominated the music scene for years.

The Dirty South includes artists like Ludacris, T.I., DJ Khaled, Goodie Mob, Master P, and the incomparable Outkast among a host of other uniquely talented folk. Last year, VH1's Hip Hop Honors paid special tribute to the Dirty South highlighting the influence Southern hip hop had on the evolution of hip hop.

24 inch rims, big chains and gold teeth have become part of the signature style of southern artists. I love everything about the south including southern music and I KNOW ya'll didn't think I would let this month pass without highlighting The Dirty South!
