Morning Inspiration

MORNING FOLKS!! TGIF!

“I would tell [myself] not to be so preoccupied with looking for approval from other people. You’re never going to be anybody other than who you are, and who you are is greater than [you] imagine. The way that we think creates our reality—it’s very powerful. I would say to a young girl who’s feeling insecure about her looks, ‘Stop!’ Who you are is not the way you look—who you are is who you are on the inside. There’s not a mirror in the world that can show you that. It is beautiful; it is amazing; it is awesome.” -Phylicia Rashad

Before I go off on my inspirational soap box, I must inform you all that Phylicia Rashad is a powerful woman in my world and her words are special to me. She inspired a generation of young women through her role as Claire Hugstable in The Cosby Show. Her role as an African American female attorney who was married to a successful doctor and had a beautiful family was nothing short of amazing.

Understand that you should never change who you are for the sake of making other people feel better. Don't dumb yourself down because people are intimidated by your intelligence. Don't allow yourself to have way too many grungy days because you realize how your beauty intimidates people. In short, don't tone down your awesomeness to make less awesome people happy. If anything, they should take notes from you and learn how to improve themselves. You are doing yourself and the world a disservice by not reaching your full potential. Don't be afraid to intimidate people but don't allow yourself to be intimidated by anyone. Always be confident in who you are and what you are. If you are truly comfortable with being YOU no one will be able to affect your self-esteem.

People will always have something to say about you but you do not overcome negativity by allowing it to get you down. Don't scale back your dreams because people don't understand them. You will live with your failures in the same way you will live with your failures. When everything fades to black, who will live with your decision?
